Out of the box: the shoes look great, the shoes feel very similar to the LD3, just with an added ankle cuff. I ran 77 miles on them during 5 runs and they perform very, as well on longer distance trailruns, (+7 hrs) the ankle cuff provides extra stability, the Vibram mega-grip outer sole performs well on wet surface rocky areas and muddy vertical hills. I live in the Seattle area and during my runs in heavy rain, even crossing little streams and deep mud the socks stay dry!!, feet dont overheat. The cuff has a bartack-stitch on the front of the ankle cuff which can rub slightly on the front of your ankle, also the shoelace garage can rub slightly if the knot is too big. This just requires some getting used to and adjusting the laces while knotted and pushed up into the garage. The insoles are thin, they have started working backwards on a longer run which is the same issue with the LD3. I have replaced them already with an aftermarket insole, which should in theory not be required for a shoe in this price point. My wife bought the exact same shoes for her winter hikes and loves them. (5 stars) I give them a 4 star rating for trail running; due to bartack placement and cheap insoles. I will continue to use these for all my wet, cold, muddy long, winter runs for sure.

Great shoe, grip is fantastic, true to size, abit small in the toebox if you have wide forefoot. Needed some wear to get used to the shoe, chafing on the outside of each heel, the shoe is stiff/short in this area, even though the gaiter is high.

It’s probably the best trail shoe I’ve ever had. I went for my first hike up over the snow line and had no problems with cold or wet.

Really like the design and build quality of the shoe. When I tried them on at the store they seemed to fit well. Maybe somewhat tight at the front. But when I tried them on at home for an extended period of time they started to hurt the front part of my feet. Had to return them unfortunately. I am normally a size 8.5 but I should have went a half size up. They didn’t have a size 9 at the store to try on.

I didn’t even try it because it’s hard to put on. As I don’t want to give a rating that’s too low, so I chose the middle 3 stars. It might be great for hard hikes but I was looking for a pair for daily walk in bad weather.

Great shoe that does an excellent job in snow or mud. Very comfy after you break them in. I’d recommend going a half size up as I found the toe box was narrow. I have pretty wide feet so the shoe was very snug the first few days.

Bought these about 2-3 months ago. Had to get them replaced because the goretex gaitor was starting to rip on the inside. I’m assuming it was from stretching the gaiter as you pull from the back loop to put them on. This was normal usage though and it started to rip very soon after. I got them replaced by arcteryx so I’m hoping the first pair was an exception. Otherwise the shoes are great. Stylish, waterproof, and the ankle gaitor keeps snow out when going through deep snow. It also keeps your anklea dry.

I havent had my pair (in Smoke Bluff) that long (approx. 1 month) to give a thorough, definitive review. But so far
the Vertex GTX Shoe is an admirable product. The quality of craftsmanship is exceptional. Stylish, capable and functional. (Will provide an update after extended use.)

Great shoe, great concept for wet trail running BUT, and it’s a big but, they are very narrow. I have never needed a wide width for any shoe but make sure you try these on before buying them unless you have narrow feet.

I love the look and quality of this boot, but the slip on part is way too tight and unusable. That’s why I had to return them.

Bought for my husband, they looked great but were so incredibly stiff he felt he wouldn’t be able to trail run in them. We sadly returned.
